Ingredients
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 1/4 tsp instant yeast
- 1 1/4 cups cold whole milk
- 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 1 cup chocolate batons or semi-sweet chocolate
- 1 tbsp milk (for egg wash)
- Confectioners’ sugar (for garnish)
Instructions
- In a stand mixer bowl, mix flour, sugar, salt, and yeast. Gradually add cold milk and mix until combined. Knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth. Cover and let rise in a warm place for about an hour until doubled in size.
- Roll out the dough into a rectangle; spread softened butter over two-thirds of it. Fold the uncovered third over the buttered section and then fold again like a letter.
- Roll out again into a rectangle and fold into thirds twice more, chilling if necessary between folds.
- Cut triangles from the rolled-out dough and place chocolate batons at the base; roll from base to tip.
- Place on lined baking sheets, proof until doubled (about 30 minutes). Brush with milk and bake at 400°F (200°C) for around 20 minutes or until golden brown.
