- 1/2 cup sugar (for vanilla bean layer)
- 2 tbsp milk (for vanilla bean layer)
- 2 tsp vanilla bean paste
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 8 oz Cool Whip (or homemade whipped cream for vanilla bean layer)
- 3/4 cup heavy whipping cream, cold
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract (for whipped cream topping)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, cocoa powder, and baking soda. Add egg, buttermilk, oil, and vanilla; blend until smooth. Gradually mix in boiling water.
- Pour batter into prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes. Let cool completely.
- For the strawberry layer: Beat cream cheese and sugar until smooth; add milk and strawberry extract. Fold in half of the Cool Whip.
- Layer cooled chocolate cakes with strawberry mixture in between.
- For the vanilla layer: Repeat using vanilla bean paste instead of strawberry extract.
