  • 1 packet instant yeast
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2/3 cup lukewarm whole milk
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 cup cold unsalted butter (for layering)
  • 1 large egg (beaten, for egg wash)
  • Optional: Chocolate chips, Nutella, almond paste

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.
  2. Stir in lukewarm milk and melted butter until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Knead for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic. Let rise for approximately 45 minutes until doubled in size.
  4. Prepare the cold butter layer by rolling it into a square between parchment sheets.
  5. Roll out the dough into a square, enclose the butter square within it, then roll out again into a rectangle.
  6. Fold the dough into thirds and chill for 20 minutes; repeat this process two more times.
  7. Cut the final rolled dough into triangles and shape into croissants.
  8. Allow them to rise again before brushing with egg wash and baking at 400°F for about 20-25 minutes.
